Among the Ruins
This five-story marble-front building, on State Street just north of Madison, was one of the major retail structures involved in the shift during the 1860s of the location of the major shopping area from Lake Street to State Street. Its loss was one of the much-mourned blows to Chicago's cultural life suffered as a result of the fire.
