The Case of Lawrence Saddler The Relief and Aid Society
This case reveals what sort of applicant the Relief and Aid Society supported. Tailor Lawrence Saddler requests shelter assistance. As the Society required, he offers the testimony of his worthiness from people the Society was likely to trust. Among his letters are endorsements from his pastor, a merchant with whom he has done business, and his former alderman. The annotation "Give order" on his application appears to indicate that his application was successful.
