  The Mayor Closes Two Saloons
The Mayor Closes Two Saloons General Sheridan in Command
Among the activities of Sheridan's men was to enforce the various price controls and other temporary restrictions during the period of crisis. In the hand-written note above, Mayor Mason informs the general that he is revoking, for non-compliance with his order that all saloons close at eight, the licenses of Roger Plant at 489 S. Clark and of Larry Gavin at the corner of Taylor and Clark Streets. The mayor adds, "Both of these places are keeping riotous places and are frequented by prostitutes."
