  Rebuilding of the Marine Building
Rebuilding of the Marine Building, ca. 1873 (Print from Glass Slide) Bricks and Mortar
The view here is east along Lake Street, with the new Marine Building, flanked by derricks and building materials, rising at the corner of LaSalle and Lake. This six-story building replaced a four-story structure, and an additional level was added in 1890. The Marine Bank, across LaSalle Street from the block that now contains the State of Illinois's James R. Thompson Center, occupied this site until 1928.
