  The Water Tower
The Water Tower Pre-Fire Landmarks
Designed by W. W. Boyington and dedicated at a great celebration in 1867, the limestone gothic water tower and pumping station across the street were the most visible elements in the system conceived by City Engineer Ellis S. Chesbrough, who had been brought to Chicago in 1855 to solve expanding Chicago's water supply problems shortly after his successful service on the new Boston water works.
