  St. James Episcopal Church
St. James Episcopal Church Pre-Fire Landmarks
St. James was one of several North Division churches of great importance to the Old Settler community. The first Episcopal church in Chicago, it was originally at Cass (now Wabash) and Illinois, and moved to its new (and current) location at the southeast corner of Cass and Huron just after Christmas in 1857, though it was not completed until thirteen years later. The fire destroyed the main building, but left the tower largely unharmed.
