Post Office and Custom House Pre-Fire Landmarks
These two important federal offices were consolidated in this building, located at the northwest corner of Dearborn and Monroe, on which construction began in 1855. One of several "fireproof" buildings to be destroyed by the great conflagration, a portion of its walls were salvaged for use in Haverley's Theater, which was replaced in 1881 by the First National Bank.
