Since the early 1960s, the block that once contained the O'Leary house and barn has been the home of the Fire Academy, in front of which is sculptor Egon Weiner's abstract sculpture commemorating the fire. As the street sign indicates, the view here is from the corner of DeKoven and Jefferson streets, looking from the southwest. According to the legend, the fire began about 175 feet diagonally northeast from this corner, at a point specially marked on the floor of the academy.
