| While many of the neighboring residences, not to mention a third of Chicago, went up in smoke, the home of the O'Learys and their tenants the McLaughlins escaped destruction. The barn behind the living quarters was not so fortunate. Someone, most likely the photographer, seems to have believed that getting this animal to pose would enhance the overall effect, even if the stand-in for one Mrs. O'Leary's cows was in fact a steer. | |||
