The Saga Continues
Just as the O'Learys were affectionately accepted into Chicago folklore, the location of where the fire began assumed an elevated status and became a center of civic ceremony. Here a crowd including nuns and schoolchildren gather in front of where the O'Leary home once stood for festivities that include a nineteenth-century steam engine manned by firefighters in uniforms from the period.
