  Panoramic and Dioramic Drama
Panoramic and Dioramic Drama, 1878 Stage, Story, and Song
This variation on the cyclorama was likely unrolled before the wondering eyes of the audience. The artist who prepared this poster deftly uses a fire hose to tie together a collection of thrilling scenes taken directly from anecdotes and illustrations published at the time of the fire, including, in clockwise order from the upper right: a barroom killing, the rush for life over the Randolph Street Bridge, brave firemen battling the flames, a valiant soldier protecting a helpless woman and child, and vigilantes stringing up a would-be arsonist.
