This variation on the cyclorama was likely unrolled before the wondering eyes of the
audience. The artist who prepared this poster deftly uses a fire hose to tie together a
collection of thrilling scenes taken directly from anecdotes and illustrations published at the
time of the fire, including, in clockwise order from the upper right: a barroom killing, the
rush for life over the Randolph Street Bridge, brave firemen battling the flames, a valiant
soldier protecting a helpless woman and child, and vigilantes stringing up a would-be
arsonist.
